The Dedman College of Biological Sciences is seeking a research assistant to provide animal husbandry and breeding. The position participates in research aimed at understanding brain degeneration. The research assistant will also conduct cell and molecular biological experiments and work with rodents conducting behavioral analyses and immunohistology. This is a 40 hour a week position. Essential Functions: Animal husbandry and genotyping Experimentation using animals Conduct histological analysis of animal tissue Conduct cell and molecular biological experiments Attend and contribute to regular lab and staff meetings Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor s degree is required; preferably in Neurobiology, Biology or related fields. A minimum of one year lab experience is required; preferably experience working in a lab doing biological or neurobiological research. Experience with breeding and genotyping of rodents is required. Experience with cell and molecular biology techniques is highly desirable, but not required. Experience with histology and immunohistology is desirable, but not required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidate must demonstrate knowledge of molecular and cell biological research skills, such as cell culture work, PCR and Western blots. Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work collegially with faculty, staff and students. Candidate must possess strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Candidate must demonstrate strong problem solving skills with the ability to be resourceful, proactive, and seek assistance as needed. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential. Candidate must also possess the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment to meet department goals and deadlines. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Outlook is desired. The position may require occasional weekend and evening work.
