Position Description

Primary purpose:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient repair and maintenance of ESP equipment within the GLSAU and Tall Cotton fields. Position level commensurate with experience and skill sets.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Monitor and track well trends and ESP performance daily

  • Maintain necessary inventory of surface and subsurface equipment

  • Troubleshoot ESP equipment

  • Respond to local ESP alarms

  • Plan, Schedule and Inspect all ESP equipment on delivery and after pull as needed

  • Start up and shut down ESPs as necessary

  • Perform recurring preventative maintenance on surface equipment

  • Coordinate and act as liaison at ESP tear-downs

  • Consult with Engineering on new ESP design/build

  • Train operational personnel on ESP operation

  • Ensure all EHS procedures and practices are followed while carrying out tasks

  • Maintain good standing with all required training

  • Knowledge of construction standards and O&M procedures

Position Requirements

Minimum requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience / specific knowledge:

  • Must have completed at least three (3) years as ESP technician

Certifications, licenses, registrations:

  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record as determined by the company and a current, valid State drivers license

  • Subject to random drug testing

Competencies, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word) and comfortable with online training systems

  • Able to work with limited supervision

  • Follow work procedures independently on less routine/daily tasks or more complex equipment/processes

  • Ability to work from written or verbal instructions

  • Proficient at operation of necessary equipment

  • Ability to properly prioritize tasks

  • Able to find, troubleshoot, and develop solutions for difficult problems

  • Act as mentor for less experienced employees

  • Have the ability to train others

  • Ability to assist less-experienced maintenance techs with complex problems

  • Provide cost estimates on jobs as requested

  • Act as subject matter expert

  • Demonstrate understanding of processes

Physical demands:

  • Primarily outside work

  • Frequently lift and carry, unassisted, items weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Walking, climbing, standing, and sitting

  • Some inside work for training, working on computer

Working conditions:

  • Traditional daylight work schedule, frequent overtime required, occasional nights, weekends and holidays

  • General oilfield conditions with potential exposure to noisy environments, CO2 and H2S

  • Emergency response

  • Call-outs

  • On-call
