Senior Engineer – Mine Services

This position is a lead role responsible for developing, planning, and coordinating civil design work and construction for all Luminant Mine active sites. The Senior Engineer prepares a variety of narrative, diagrams, and detail drawings in support of mine operations to ensure maximum productivity.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. In this position, either directly or through others, the incumbent:

  • Performs senior engineering tasks of design, evaluation, problem solving, analysis, and planning to support mine site operations.

  • Serve as a primary contact for coordinating resolution to regulatory issues as they relate to detail design plans for mine structures.

  • Plan future mine deposits, answer design questions, provide technical assistance to designers who are being developed, attend compliance and key alliance meetings.

  • Manage peer review and sets priorities and/or interfaces with other support staff to ensure work projects are completed accurately.

  • Manage construction projects (dirt, rock and concrete quantities) in the field.

  • Manage and oversee construction contractors and answer technical questions.

  • Identifies the nature of complex or undefined problems requiring judgment, evaluation, or analytical thinking.

  • Provide technical interpretation of regulatory rules and be a liaison between mine personnel and state agencies.

  • Interface with engineering staff, mine site operations, Environmental Services, and other Luminant personnel to ensure consistent, practical, and effective solutions.

  • Certify the work of people working under their direction

  • Works with a minimum supervision and spends time constructively, takes productive actions, strives to achieve goals, and complies with work rules.

  • Comply with safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe working environment

  • Participate in special projects and committee assignments as requested.

  • 10+ years of related experience that promotes development in the areas described above with concentration in cost estimating (materials and labor), contract management and project management.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (water resources preferred).

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred) or the ability on gaining Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas within 1 year.

  • Design, repair, and/or maintenance practices for foundations, haul roads, and/or earthen dams/impoundments.

  • Structural Engineering experience (preferred)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and leadership skills are required.

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office products and knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, HEC-RAS, Watershed Modeling software, etc.

Physical/mental demands and working conditions: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:

  • Occasional long, irregular hours

  • Use of a PC, computer terminal and/or telephone usually more than 6 hours a day.

  • Frequent travel between company facilities and occasional overnight travel.
