Job Description: Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) is advancing the cutting edge of new and novel materials for integration in next-generation airborne electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) systems. The SAS Advanced Concepts and Technology (ACT) department is seeking an engineer who enjoys creatively solving complex problems on dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams for a variety of research and development projects. Successful applicants should have a strong technical background in either materials science, electromagnetics (EM), optical systems, or physics and are able to effectively communicate, lead, and work-on multi–disciplinary teams. Key Tasks : Working-on and leading multi-disciplinary teams to develop advanced materials and structures for next generation EO/IR systems Advanced research into nano-materials, EM, optical systems, and manufacturing techniques Development of optical, EM, and material models to describe component performance Design and execution of experiments to validate optical, EM, thermal, or structural performance Guide future research work based on model predictions and laboratory experience with EO/IR components Writing and presenting summaries of research to internal and external audiences U.S. Citizenship and ability to access to US only data systems Required Skills: 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or other related field working testing, experiments, and analysis Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts to complex and difficult technical problems Ability to work on multi-disciplinary teams on fundamental research projects Excellent analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills Ability to independently interact and lead engagement with customer technical community and partners This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment. Desired Skills: Publication and presentation of materials, EM, or optics related research in a peer-reviewed journal and conference 2+ years of experience leading a multi-disciplinary team in an area of fundamental research 2+ years of experience designing and executing experiments 2+ years of FEA or FEM analysis (ANSYS, HFSS, CST, COMSOL, STAR-CCM, Code V, Zemax, and FRED are preferred) Experience with basic scripting and/or software development (MATLAB, C++/C# preferred) Solid analytical capabilities, or an ability to relate observed phenomenon back to first principals Required Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, Materials Science, or other engineering discipline Desired Education: MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, Materials Science, or other engineering discipline U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
